Arthur Orthodontics uses the latest orthodontic technology to provide quality orthodontic care to patients in Scottsdale & Glendale, AZ. While we do everything in our power to ensure that your treatment goes off without a hitch, some situations may arise that may require a special visit to our office. That being said, if you experience one of the issues below, it is important to remember not to panic. In most cases, these common “emergencies” can be easily resolved.
What to Do In Case of an Orthodontic Emergency
If your braces or appliances break or come loose, contact us right away. Instead of coming directly into our office, give us a call first so we create a time to see you without keeping you waiting. Even if you have an upcoming appointment scheduled, it is important that we see you right away to get your broken appliance repairs or replaces as swiftly as possible.
Loose Brackets or Bands
Give us a call right away if a bracket or band comes loose. It may be necessary for us to re-fit the bracket as soon as possible. You may have a situation that requires snipping a wire or sliding a bracket off a wire during the night or on the weekend. If you do need to cut a wire, use clean fingernail clippers that have been sterilized in rubbing alcohol. Then call our office on the next business day so we can schedule a repair appointment.
It is common for orthodontic patients to lose a separator, so don't panic. Just give our office a call to find out if it needs to be replaced.
It is normal to feel some discomfort during the first week you are wearing braces. This is the time when you will be getting used to having the braces on your teeth and you may feel some soreness, discomfort or pain. You can take acetaminophen or another non-aspirin pain reliever during this adjustment period to help you cope with the discomfort you feel. Another way to deal with discomfort and soreness is to place a warm washcloth or heating pan over the affected area on your face or jaw.
